Reviving the Blog

Hey World,

I deactivated my Facebook account a few days ago.  There was no specific impetus; Facebook hasn't been cool for years.*  I just found myself spending too much time on the site, and I had a higher and higher percentage of my time on Facebook being used for stupid purposes (reading statuses, etc.) instead of worthy purposes (catching up with casual friends, etc.).  Also, I get the added benefit of telling people that I'm too cool for Facebook.

(This isn't original content, if there were any question.)

Anyways, I didn't come all the way to this site to let y'all know I'm done with Facebook.  Rather, I mention it because I think I'll be posting to this blog a bit more frequently as a result of my deactivation.  (I've also been reading some well-written blogs these days, which has inspired me to strive for a higher form of internet communication than a Facebook status or a tweet.)  So, bookmark this page and check back weekly or so.  Maybe I'll be able to put together something that earns this blog a spot in your daily rotation of websites you visit.

*Aside: Many people would say that Facebook got lame when the site let adults join.  Admittedly, nothing kills a cool trend like your parents participating.  I'm of the opinion, however, that Facebook started losing its sheen back in 2006 or so, back when the mainstream media started referencing it--first in articles describing the rise of Facebook itself, and then later in articles that talked about whether a parent should let his kid have a Facebook account.  The site is so ubiquitous now that it'll obviously never be cool again, but I'm sure Zuckerberg and co. would rather have their billions than their hipness.  I don't blame them one bit, either.
